Khatija Nampijinpa Possum

Anmatyerre | Pitjantjatjara

Born in Alice Springs, Khatija is the third generation in a line of  acclaimed and sought after artists. She learned to paint as a child watching her mother, Michelle and aunty Gabriella bringing their stories to life on canvas.

Khatija is an exciting artist to watch as she completes large format works depicting ancestral stories including the Seven Sisters Dreaming, Grandmother’s Country and Women’s Body Paint.

Khatija’s Grandfather, Clifford Possum was one of the original masters of the Central Desert art movement and is  world renowned. He taught his daughters who developed their painting over time.  Khatija, taught by her mother, now paints her grandfather’s stories in her own contemporary style as well as women’s stories, frequently using vivid colour and dynamic shapes in her work.
