Michelle Possum Nungarrayi
Michelle is the second daughter of Emily Nakamarra Possum and the internationally renowned artist, Clifford Tjapaltjarri Possum, one of the founding members of the desert art movement in the 1970s. Born in Alice Springs, Michelle and her older sister and brother grew up surrounded by a vibrant community of artists. Immersed in this creative environment, Michelle learned the cultural stories from the Dreaming, with her father guiding his children in the art of painting.
Michelle is a highly regarded artist in her own right, with her works exhibited widely across Australia. Today, she continues to draw inspiration from her father’s heritage as well as the women’s stories. Michelle creates topographical landscape pieces that feature traditional iconography, as well as themes of the Seven Sisters Dreaming, Bush Tucker, and Women’s Ceremony. Michelle is known to collaborate from time to time with her sister Gabriella and daughter Khatija.
