Alison Nungala Daniels
Alison was born in Alice Springs and grew up in Yuelamu community with her family living a traditional life. She learnt how to locate water and how to hunt, the vital survival skills for desert dwellers. She learned how and where to find food in the bush and saw her parents and others translate their stories onto canvas. The soakage is on her mother’s country.
She spent time in Adelaide with her aunts and cousins as a young teenager before attending Yirara College in Alice Springs. Alison started painting in her twenties and she continues to develop her painting now her children are grown and have kids of their own.
Now living in Adelaide with her partner, Alison paints Water Dreaming and Bush Onion, from her grandparents’ stories. She recalls gathering bush foods, particularly bush tomato and bush onion and these are often what she paints.
